April Celebrations

National Jazz Appreciation MonthRead The Confluence Blog about celebrations and upcoming holidays to celebrate in or out of your Sacramento, California apartment for rent this April, including ideas for celebrating National Poetry Month and Grilled Cheese Day.

Have you visited The Torch Club, a local bar featuring live jazz music? Check it out this month to celebrate National Jazz Appreciation Month. One of Sacramento’s oldest bars, it was established in 1934 but continues to be a hotspot for musicians to showcase their music. The bar is home to the best in local and national blues acts with live music six days a week, according to the website. The Torch Club is about a 20-minute drive from our apartment community. We hope you have a hoppin’ time embracing National Jazz Appreciation Month!

National Poetry MonthRead The Confluence Blog about celebrations and upcoming holidays to celebrate in or out of your Sacramento, California apartment for rent this April, including ideas for celebrating National Poetry Month and Grilled Cheese Day.

In addition to being a month for celebrating jazz, this month is also National Poetry Month! Poetry doesn’t have to be just something you talk about in English class. Jump into an avenue of it by watching how some of the most talented voices do it through slam poetry. Check out Rudy Francisco’s “Adrenaline Rush” to celebrate. Described as “one of the most recognizable names in Spoken Word Poetry” by Poetry Slam Inc, he gives an interpretation of an adrenaline rush that contrasts poignantly with what many of us might think of when we hear the term — with what he first describes in his opening for his submission in the 2017 Individual World Poetry Slam Finals. Watch the video for his portrayal of what it’s like to be Black in America.

Upcoming Holidays

Grilled Cheese DayRead The Confluence Blog about celebrations and upcoming holidays to celebrate in or out of your Sacramento, California apartment for rent this April, including ideas for celebrating National Poetry Month and Grilled Cheese Day.

Will you be celebrating Grilled Cheese Day this year? It’s April 12th, but we definitely think this is a holiday worth celebrating any day of the year. Try this Cranberry and Brie Turkey Grilled Cheese with Avocado and Bacon sandwich in honor of the day. It doesn't have to be Thanksgiving for you to enjoy this savory sandwich.

However perfect this recipe is for your Thanksgiving dinner leftovers, you can enjoy this anytime by simply gathering up the ingredients for it. The combination of brie, roast turkey, cranberry sauce, crispy cooked bacon, and avocado makes for a grilled cheese sandwich unlike any other that will have you feeling satisfied, whether you eat this for lunch or dinner.

World Art Day

Will you be visiting California Museum to celebrate World Art Day on April 15th this year? As long as you're celebrating jazz and poetry, look in other places for art to appreciate! We love the idea to visit a museum near your apartment. Visit the California Museum for an interesting look into our great state and the people who have made it what it is. California Museum is about 20 minutes from The Confluence. Happy World Art Day!

Book Suggestions

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Find an interesting read in this novel. Read the summary: “The unnamed narrator arrives at Manderley, an impressive country estate, after marrying Maxim de Winter, the owner and heir to the property. She is soon tormented by the memory of Maxim’s first wife, Rebecca. The neighbors, guests, and servants are all devoted to the memory of Rebecca, but no one is more devoted than the twisted Mrs. Danvers. As the mysteries pile up, the narrator begins to wonder if marrying Maxim and coming to Manderley was a big mistake.”

Howards End by E.M. ForsterRead The Confluence Blog about celebrations and upcoming holidays to celebrate in or out of your Sacramento, California apartment for rent this April, including ideas for celebrating National Poetry Month and Grilled Cheese Day.

Find something to think about by immersing yourself in this classic: “The self-interested disregard of a dying woman’s bequest, an impulsive girl’s attempt to help an impoverished clerk, and the marriage between an idealist and a materialist — all intersect at a Hertfordshire estate called Howards End. The fate of this beloved country home symbolizes the future of England itself in E. M. Forster’s exploration of social, economic, and philosophical trends, as exemplified by three families: the Schlegels, symbolizing the idealistic and intellectual aspect of the upper classes; the Wilcoxes, representing upper-class pragmatism and materialism; and the Basts, embodying the aspirations of the lower classes. Written in 1910, Howards End won international acclaim for its insightful portrait of English life during the post-Victorian era.”
